-Lip Pistol-

His verbal lip-pistol
whistled violent verbs
and four letter words,
shattering my
confidence of glass
with each blast
from his gun,
a wicked contorted tongue.

-Face Placed Memories-

Proud of laugh lines,
those memories are mine,
kept in the corners of eyes.

I wrote it while spending time with family and thinking about aging, life and laughter.

Art, Daniel Egnéus

Artist/graphic designer, Marco Suarez (who I featured a few posts ago) turned me on to this guy. This is one talented artist. Something about Daniel's work just really connects with me. It's not your typical type of art, so if you can appreciate something a little on the odd side, this is for you. Check Daniel Egnéus' website HERE if these pictures pique your interest.

-Close Call With Burning Walls-

Got to escape the fire,
escape the dark.
The building's burning,
turning order to chaos.
The mile-high smoke plume
proclaiming present doom.
Glowing cinders floating
like buzzing bees.
He's
running and stumbling
over broken beams.
Backdrafts blowing
doors off hinges,
singeing the fringes
of furniture
and fixtures.
Textiles turning
from beauty
to ash.
One last gasp
then he crashes
through the window's glass.
At last,
a fresh breath
of freedom.

-Moods Move Rooms-

It seemed as though
as he spoke
smoke hung in the air.
Then he stormed out,
leaving the room in gloom
and intense silence.
Those who remained
were covered
in a sticky
silly string web
of accusations and threats
of impending doom
coming soon
if their made up minds
remained unmoved.

Lyrics By Jimmy Eat World-Drugs Or Me-From The Album 'Futures'

I love this song and I love Jimmy Eat World's unique sound. I only post songs for their poetic lyrical value. And this is one that I had to post. Enjoy.

I'm not sure if all of the lyrics in the video are correct but they are down below.

Stay with me
You're the one I need
You make the hardest things
Seem easy

Keep my heart
Somewhere drugs don't go
Where the sunshine slows
Always keep me close

If only you could see
The stranger next to me
You promise you promise that you're done
But I can't tell you from the drugs

Don't let go
We'll dig a great big hole
Down an endless hole
We'll both go

You're so blind!
You can't save me this time
Hope comes from inside
And I feel so low tonight

If only you could see
The stranger next to me
You promise you promise that you're done
But I can't tell you from the drugs

I wish that you could see
This face in front of me
You're sorry you swear it you're done
But I can't tell you from the drugs

(Ohhhh)
(Ohhhh)

(take me) I need your help
(so far away) To pull me up take the wheel
(take me) Out from me
(so far away) Out from me

(Take me) If only you could see (I need your help)
(So far away) The stranger next to me (To pull me up take the pain)
(Take me) You promise you promise that you're done (Out from me)
(So far away) But I can't tell you from the drugs (Out from me)

(Take me) I wish that you could see (I need your help)
(So far away) This face in front of me (To pull me up take the wheel)
(Take me) You're sorry you swear it you're done (Out from me)
(So far away) But I can't tell you from the drugs (Out from me)

Keep my heart
somewhere drugs don't go
Where the sunshine slows
always keep me close

-Plastic Figurines-

Toy soldiers don't bleed.
No need
to repair
their tiny plastic
legs and arms
after pretend warfare.

Toy soldiers don't grieve.
Figurines
don't weep on sleeves
of fellow families.

Toy soldiers don't die.
No twenty-one gun salute.
No black suits.
No folded flag burial
or half mast memorial.

No,
toy soldiers don't die,
grieve
or bleed
like real life
army and marines.
No,
this is not playtime
this is not make believe.

-Slippery Sand-

Time is unrelenting,
unforgiving
and never pausing.
You can't hold
the time-sandstone.
Just when you think
you've got it gripped
it crumbles and slips
sifting fast
past desperate fingers
and funnels back
into the hourglass.
Controlling the flow
of time's quick sliding sand,
is like grasping the wind
in the palm of your hand.

Art, Marco Suarez

Marco is a super talented artist and graphic designer. I love that he uses a lot of elements of nature, like trees and birds. My wife and I are lucky enough to own a few of these and have several more on our 'to get' list. Check out his fine art for sale HERE and his main page HERE.

-The Break Of The Wave-

The crescendo of waves
crash like rolling thunder
under sun-soaked skies.

Every wet drop
in the salty sea
has a chance to be
part of a beautiful breaking wave,
one moment of fame.
The ocean's tide rises
until gravity's command
causes the wave to break,
to curl and collapse.
Lapping the sand
with cool licks
to ease the heat.
Endless wave upon wave
proclaim the peace treaty
between land and sea.
Carry on tidal boundary,
continue on and on
keeping the peace.

And the crescendo of waves
keep crashing like rolling thunder
under sun-soaked skies.

Wrote this a couple months ago while visiting the beach. I was just pondering the relationship that the land and sea share.
